A project which has given young people in Redditch the opportunity to actually build their own homes has won a top award, writes Becky Procter.
Redditch Youth Build Group has worked closely with Redditch Co-operative Homes to build 12 flats in Mount Pleasant.
And the scheme has been so successful, it has won 'placement provider of the year' from Community First, which supports voluntary organisations across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
The young people, aged 16-23, have all had on-site training from builders, including brick laying, carpentry, floor laying and painting and decorating.
And a number of the young people have gone on to receive NVQ qualifications.
