BRINTONS Athletic reached the second round of the West Midlands League Cup with a 2-1 home victory over Ludlow Town Reserves, despite playing with 10 men for most of the match.
The first 20 minutes between the West Midlands South teams was rather subdued, but when players began to lose their cool Shaun Perry blotted his previously perfect disciplinary record when he was given his marching orders for elbowing an opponent.
After a goalless first half Brintons went ahead when Duncan Flowers and Keith Elliott combined to create an opening for Sam Pountney who tucked the ball home.
When brothers Lee and Stuart Jordan - double signings from Chaddesley Corbett - came on as substitues Lee made an immediate impact by setting up Elliott to fire home from 20 yards.
With 10 minutes remaining Ludlow cut the deficit but were unable to break through again.
Brintons will be at home to Bewdley Town or Great Wyrley in the second round while Wyre Forest entertain Leominster Town and Chaddesley play hosts to Heath Hayes Reserves.
Fixtures, Saturday: Brintons v Lye Town Reserves (1.45pm), Wyre Forest v Leominster Town (1.45pm).
