IT was another quacking start to the New Year in Bewdley as the annual duck race drew hundreds despite the cold weather.
The event, organised by Kidderminster and District Lions Club, attrracted 290 entries and cheering crowds lined both sides of the river.
Race organiser Colin Hill said: "We were delighted with the turnout as it was such a cold and frosty morning.
"We raised £450 which will go to the Lions chosen charities."
Meanwhile, the hard-working Lions raised £500 from the Christmas float which has been a major attraction on district streets.
Mr Hill said: "The arm-waving, music-playing Santa and his tin-rattling helpers are well received wherever they go.
"Many people wait in specially just to see him, others say that Christmas has not started until the Lions have been with their Father Christmas.
"Thank you to everyone who made a donation to the collection this year."
The Lions are planning to stage the annual raft race, which was cancelled last year due to foot and mouth, on Sunday, May 12.
