A rallying call has gone out to the people of Broadway and surrounding villages for information about soldiers billeted in a house in Prestatyn during the second world war.
About a year ago Rebecca Davies moved into Rangemoor, 50 Beach Road, East Prestatyn in Denbighshire and discovered a hoard of letters and personal items under her bedroom floorboards.
She was so fascinated by the items she began to research the history of the area, discovering that there was an army camp and hospital stationed nearby.
She said: "Thanks to the local people of Prestatyn, I have established a fair idea of what life was like back in the 1940's but I have not achieved my target in tracing the soldiers.
"The letters were in shreds but I have sufficient information to establish that one soldier, W.E. Cull was from Broadway in Worcestershire and I hope the other two, Leonard Davison and J.A. Lowe also lived nearby."
They were all attached to the 2nd OPS Training Battalion and were stationed in Prestatyn from 1939 to 1943. It is believed that after their training many of the soldiers were sent to Malaya and Japan, with some becoming prisoners of war.
Ms Davies, a journalist, added: "I would be very grateful if the men themselves or their families would contact me so that I may be able to piece together the rest of the puzzle, and find out what happened to them."
Anyone wishing to respond to the call is urged to contact Ms Davies by writing to her home address.
