A CANCER sufferer died after the car he was driving veered off the road and smashed into a parked vehicle.
David Jeavons died from multiple injuries after his car ploughed into the Land Rover, an inquest heard.
Worcestershire assistant deputy coroner Dr Nigel Garbutt recorded a verdict of accidental death after accepting that Mr Jeavons had not deliberately driven at the car. He also ruled out the possibility of sudden death at the wheel.
"He was driving his car and for some reason failed to take action to negotiate the bend," said Dr Garbutt.
The 57-year-old, who had been diagnosed with cancer of the gullet had just finished his first bout of chemotherapy and had one course left.
But on Friday, September 28, last year, his blue Ford Sierra saloon hit the stationary vehicle in a layby as he travelled on the B4189 Shatterford road in Wolverley.
Former bank manager Mr Jeavons, of Puxton Drive, Kidderminster, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ken Evans, 70, of nearby Lea Castle Farm, told the inquest at Worcester's Guildhall: "I saw this car coming down the road and all of a sudden he was off the road
"He must have been on the grass verge for at least 15 yards before he hit the Land Rover. The road veers to the right but he had gone straight."
