DESPITE a season of variable success on the field, Worcester Nomads Cricket Club look back on an enjoyable year with enough members to field five senior teams every weekend, and moreover, a record number of young players from the age of under eight to under 17.
Of course the outstanding achievements were at under 15 and under 16 levels where the teams reached national and midland finals. However the fight continues and members hope that, with next season the club's 75th anniversary, the efforts of the coaches and junior managers will be recognised.
The anniversary will be celebrated with a number of events at Bransford, among which will be a gala day, celebrity matches, a special dinner at a local hotel and a commemorative booklet edited by Malcolm Jones, the secretary.
Over the years the Nomads have lost contact with a number of old members and the club is anxious to renew these contacts, a telephone call to Malcolm on 01905 429701 will suffice.
The loss of three outstanding 1st X1 players at the start of the season gave the league sides a difficult time and, under the circumstances, the 1st X1 did well to win five matches in the senior league.
Next season in the second division Nomads will have the opportunity to rebuild and new playing members will be welcome at the indoor nets at Royal Grammar School on Sunday evenings.
Last season only Malcolm Jones, who reached his customary 1000 runs, played to anything like his potential, but the younger players Kieran Rees (650 senior runs), John Dimond (580 senior runs) and James Watkins (473 senior runs including one century) all look likely to achieve further success.
