SPEED cameras at the approach to every town and village in Britain is the most effective way of reducing speeding, it was claimed this week.
Making the call is Peter Sturgeon from Belbroughton, vice chairman of the Worcestershire branch of the Council for the Protection of Rural England and its county roads spokesman.
He said: "The highly visible metal box cameras, commonly seen in other counties yet woefully missing in Worcestershire are the single most effective way of reducing speed."
He went on to say in the past few years West Mercia Police have opted to use speed traps instead. "Their policy is wrong," he said.
"Fixed speed cameras are a deterrent to the inconsiderate motorist, speed traps do nothing except raise revenue."
No one from West Mercia Police was available for comment as we went to press.
