BROMSGROVE'S Tony Boyle has been crowned West Midland Draughts League champion for 2001.
He won his last two games and finished on equal points with Clive Doleman, from Droitwich.
Tony was handed the title because he beat Clive during the season on his way to a record of 11 wins, six draws and three defeats.
It is the first time Tony has won the league after eight attempts.
It capped a great year for him. He claimed the Birmingham Cup and was second in the Sammy Cohen Tournament.
He said: "Less successful, however, were my attempts to get a draughts club going in either Bromsgrove or Redditch.
"It seems even though thousands and thousands play on the Internet, few want to play at a club."
