FANS of point-to-point racing - who lost out last year when the sport was decimated by the foot and mouth crisis - are looking forward to the start of the new season which gets under way on Sunday.
But they will have to wait until Saturday March 9 for the first of the three popular meetings at the roadside course at Chaddesley Corbett. The Harkaway Club stages its fixture on that day to be followed on Saturday April 20 by the Worcestershire.
The biggest event on the seven-race card is the prestigious Lady Dudley Cup which will be contested for in the men's open race.
Worcestershire's secretary, Maureen Trow, from Rushock, near Droitwich Spa, said the extra race, for mares only, is being sponsored by Worcester Racecourse.
Referring to last season's West Midlands fixtures, which were all abandoned, Mrs Trow said the hunt had suffered a considerable financial blow. The final Albrighton Woodland fixture is set to take place on Golden Jubilee Bank Holiday Monday June 3.
