BULL Allstars took advantage over the Christmas period to extend their lead in the Malvern Football League as the majority of games fell victim to the frosty conditions.
The leaders played a local derby against their rivals Brewery at a crisp Ross Road Playing Fields in Ledbury on Sunday. On a tacky pitch Bull Allstars set out their intentions straight from the first whistle, with Mark Toman hitting the back of the net in the opening minutes of the game. Chris Stone headed in for Allstars' second prior to the interval to give the visiting team a 2-0 lead at the break.
This competitive encounter did see opportunities for both sides in the second period with both defences finding the conditions difficult as the pitch became tacky. Chris Stone doubled his goal tally of the game to record Allstars third goal with a close range effort shortly after the restart. A clumsy challenge in the Brewery penalty area allowed Jamie James to score from the spot past Mick Haron in the Brewery goal on the hour to see Bull Allstars lead 4-0. At the other end Brewery had chances to reduce the arrears but a combination of missed chances and safe keeping by Glyn Morris in the Allstars goal ensured a blank scoresheet for the home side. In the final 15 minutes Jamie James scored his second of the game, rounding one defender before slotting the ball past Haron to record a 5-0 victory for the Bull Allstars.
All other matches in the League fell victim to the wintry conditions. A full fixture list is scheduled for this coming Sunday with fourth placed Bell Inn 98 facing third placed Kempsey United as Brewery travel to Morgan Aero 8 in the fight for fifth spot.
Interthornes travel to Talbot Head, Club AC 30 await the visit of Callow End Harriers and Bull Allstars face a home tie against the in form Fromes Hill.
In the Under 18s Youth Division, sponsored by the Soccer Site, Malvern Town could wrap up the championship if they can defeat Warndon Youth at Shap Drive, Worcester and Tupsley Pegasus Juniors await the visit of Libbery Wanderers in the other league encounter.
