AN organisation that supports the voluntary sector has been celebrating the achievements of some of its volunteers.
Community First is a not-for-profit organisation, based in Malvern, that aims to promote voluntary action and improve rural life.
Young people from across Herefordshire and Worcestershire were recognised for their involvement in the Government's New Deal programme during Community First's recent annual meeting.
They were also recognised for their commitment to become job ready.
Andrew Watson, aged 21, from Evesham, received a certificate in recognition of his continued efforts to improve his skills.
Having started work towards NVQ Care, Mr Watson developed his confidence and abilities and was offered work with Home Farm Trust providing care to people with learning disabilities.
Alan King, from Kidderminster, also did well with Age Concern Wyre Forest and Sue Pritchard, of Hereford Group Training Association was named Training Provider of the Year. Stella Hammond, of Kidderminster Chamber Training, was runner-up. "The team is very proud of the achievements that their clients have made during the year," said Lesley McKay who leads the programme for Community First.
"Helping young people to take an active part in their community is one approach Community First has adopted to combat social exclusion on a real and practical basis."
