AN action movie shot by a young film-maker in Malvern depicts terrorists hijacking a plane before ploughing the aircraft into a cinema.

The Beacon, written and directed by freelance cameraman Neil Oseman, has chilling parallels to the September 11 attacks in New York.

But the 21-year-old refused to cut the controversial footage, despite concerns it would be inappropriate.

Mr Oseman, an ex-Chase High School pupil, who was born and brought up in Malvern, began writing the 75-minute film in 1998 and ploughed £3,000 of his own money into the project.

It features 50 cast and crew and tells the story of Sarah, a bored council worker, who has an SAS boyfriend, Dan.

Life changes one night at the cinema when a plane packed with terrorists smashes into the building. One takes Dan hostage, and it falls to Sarah and film buff usher Conrad to save him.

But the pair realise their mission is much bigger when the terrorists take a range of hills with two rockets containing a potent biochemical weapon.

"Several people have asked me if I'm going to change the plot or delay the release of the film in the wake of the events in America," said Mr Oseman, who now lives in Hereford.

"But the answer is no.

"I had a serious think about including the scenes, but the hijacking plot is essential to the rest of the film.

"Although it's a key scene, it's only two minutes out of a 75-minute piece, and by the time the film's released, months will have passed and it won't be such a problem.

"The storyline was created long before September 11."

The movie, filmed mainly on the 1,395ft Worcestershire Beacon, part of the Malvern Hills, will be premiered at The Odeon in Commercial Road, Hereford, on Saturday, February 2.

It will be released independently on video on Monday, February 11, and some Worcester shops have expressed an interest in stocking it.

But it cannot be released on the big screen because of the costs of transferring it to celluloid.
