A MAN was stabbed in the chest in an unprovoked knife attack outside his Worcester home.

The victim, who has not been named, was left injured after the early morning incident outside his home in Alder Close, Rainbow Hill.

The attacker fled the scene towards Tunnel Hill and is described as white, about 6ft tall, and stocky.

He was wearing a black scarf around his face, a black woolly hat, and a dark-coloured jacket.

"There appears to be no motive for this crime, and we'd like to speak to anyone with information about it," said Det Con Ray Williams.

The attack took place shortly after midnight on Friday, January 4.

But police did not release details until last night.

A Hereford and Worcester Ambulance Service spokeswoman said they had no record of an emergency crew being called to the incident.

A police spokeswoman declined to comment on whether the victim needed hospital treatment, and said that CID did not want to release any further details for fear of jeopardising the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Con Williams, at Worcester police station, on 01905 723888, quoting reference c/548202.
