A WORCESTER woman attacked a doctor and nurse after being admitted to hospital to be treated for a drug overdose.
Erica Kelly assaulted staff at Worcester Royal Infirmary when she awoke after taking an overdose of anti-depressants and alcohol, Droitwich Magistrates Court heard yesterday.
Kelly had been found by police, collapsed in Northfield Street, Arboretum, just after midnight on Sunday, September 23, last year and was taken to casualty, said Abi Nixon, prosecuting.
"When she awoke from her drunken state she began to complain about the lack of service, and several patients became concerned," she said.
"She then struck the doctor a number of times on the chest and punched a nurse on her arm and chest.
"She was then escorted from the premises and was taken to the police station where she said she had taken a number of anti-depressants."
The court was told how 31-year-old Kelly had been in prison for violent offences, and had a history of mental illness.
"Her problems came to a head in March, 1999 when she had a breakdown," said Ann Brain, defending. She has no recollection of the events but she accepts what may have happened."
Kelly, of Gamekeepers Drive, Warndon, admitted two counts of assault and one of being drunk and disorderly.
She was ordered to pay £75 compensation to each of the victims, was given a two-year community rehabilitation order with the condition she must attend a rehabilitation programme, was fined £25 for being drunk and disorderly and was ordered to pay £50 costs.
