AN Evesham man was spotted by police officers trying to reverse his car into a parking space while he was over the limit.

Richard Tyrer was arrested after he was approached by the officers, who noticed he smelt of alcohol and had glazed eyes, Droitwich Magistrates Court was told yesterday.

"The officers saw him trying to reverse into the parking space and saw he was having difficulty," said Abi Nixon, prosecuting.

"He collided with a parked vehicle, and when they went to speak to the driver, they noticed he smelt of alcohol, and had glazed eyes.

"He started to shout and became aggressive, and after a struggle he was put to the floor and put in the police car."

When Tyrer, of Leys Road, Harvington, got to the police station he was breathalysed, and readings showed he had 107mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath - three times the legal limit.

The court was told the 24-year-old had also been convicted of drink driving in 1997.

Ignatius Hughes, defending, said Tyrer had been going through a bad patch at the time of the crime, and had lost his job.

He had argued with the mother of his child, and was struggling to pay a mortgage.

Tyrer admitted one count of driving with excess alcohol, and was given a 140-hour community punishment order, was disqualified from driving for three years, and was ordered to pay £60 costs.
