LET'S get straight to the point. Football is about entertainment first and foremost -- unless of course you support a George Graham team.
OK it is also about winning, but we can't all win -- look at Manchester United in Europe -- so for the average soccer supporter it's all about entertainment.
It could come in the form of a good shot, memorable save, a fight between club mascots, a whacky MC, a great steak and kidney pie or for the really masochistic, Steve McManaman's 20 minute cameo for England against Albania!
Worcester City's ambitious plans for a 7,000 capacity stadium in tandem with DIY giants B&Q gives City fans a dream of being able to cheer their side to glory in a new state-of-the-art stadium.
With the right support (Worcester City Council please stand up, please stand up) this could become reality.
But here's a cautionary tale. I once went to the magnificent 67,000-seater Old Trafford to see Dennis Irwin's testimonial between United and Manchester City and frankly the Theatre of Dreams was a damp squib.
Bored? I had more fun queuing for the toilet at half- time.
And this is the point. It's all very well having the best facilities but without entertainment there is no guarantee anyone will turn up to sit in these beautiful new stands.
John Barton is doing his best to create a team that plays good football, but off the pitch I would like to see a bit more glitz that adds to the overall occasion.
How about a blast of a signature tune every time Mark Owen hits the back of the net -- or if someone gets a red card what about Bye Bye Baby by the Bay City Rollers or Another One Bites The Dust.
It's a bit gaudy I know but I'm sure it would add to the spectacle and create an added dimension to life down the Lane.
I'm not sure how these ideas will go down with the older City fans, but the club's future depends on cultivating a younger crowd and gimmicks are increasingly what it's all about these days.
One man who certainly has the patter and pazzazz to inject a bit of life into proceedings is the self-styled legend, Captain Crazy, currently residing at St George's Lane.
For years Aggborough fans used to welcome Kidderminster Harriers' players onto the pitch to the strains of Thunderbirds Are Go.
I'm sure Captain Crazy's antics given full reign could be worth a sizeable portion of the entry fee alone and, in the long term, if City want to fill their new stadium they need to have that something extra to draw the punters across town to the new arena.
