Redditch United 2 Bilston Town 1
AN ASTONISHING Paul Danks double rocked Bilston, who looked on course for a win after a debatable penalty decision.
United created a string of chances in the second half but looked set to extend a run of five matches without a goal before their leading scorer buried two in three minutes.
Lively sub Michael Campbell was the provider for the first, cleverly feeding the 12 goal hitman in the area after an Ian Mitchell centre for Danks to joyfully fire home 15 minutes from time.
The second came out of nothing, Danks broke free down the left and with few options cut inside in trademark style before belting one in past Andy De Bont's despairing dive.
And that was that.
Redditch had almost taken a comical lead three minutes in when Bilston defender Gavin Stone back headed inches wide of his goal with De Bont in no-man's land.
United keeper Harvey Willetts did his best to keep home supporters on their toes by flapping at a string of crosses but pulled off a superb save to tip over a Lee Rollason header close-in on 19 minutes.
Moments earlier De Bont had done well to block point-blank from Danks.
Leon Brown is probably still wondering why he didn't put Town in front in the 27th minute when he shot into the side netting one yard out from an open goal after a suicidal mix-up between Willetts and Mitchell.
Four minutes later and Jason Smith coolly stroked Bilston ahead from the spot after referee Mr D Hannis bemused fans by awarding a penalty, presumably for a push.
United created chances after the break with Nigel Niblett heading over and Danks firing over before the former Stourbridge striker was inches wide with a well-directed header on 67 minutes.
Brown rounded Willetts in the 67th minute but took himself too wide before Smith eventually fired over.
And then Paul Danks let rip to end the frustration and leave the visitors reeling.
