Redditch United 2 Gresley Rovers 1
WHAT a week it's been for Scott Colcombe.
After undoubtedly making himself a few bob with his weekend revelations, the United wing back came off the bench to score a goal which could be worth upwards of £10,000 for his club.
Just as it seemed the words 'Barry Woolley header' would leave the ashen-faced Redditch directors with recurring nightmares, Casanova Colcombe won a place in their hearts with an unstoppable swerving effort from 25 yards two minutes from time.
And the diminutive wide man was set free again in acres of space in the area four minutes into injury time but the excitement proved too much and he tripped over his own laces.
So much for the twice a night man.
On reflection it was another struggle to overcome a side at the wrong end of the table but with chairman Rod Laight and his directors kicking every ball the celebrations which greeted Colcombe's strike and the final whistle told their own story.
The first half was a dour affair lifted only by Paul Danks' eighth goal in eight games.
The former Stourbridge man turned Woolley inside out in the Gresley area before firing low past a stranded James Lindley on 25 minutes.
After the break Redditch were forced back again in a repeat of Saturday's game.
Woolley gave the hosts a warning when he climbed to head narrowly over the bar and a backpedalling Harvey Willetts on 48 minutes and after Neil Beagan screwed an effort wide Mark Peters was inches away from converting a Chris Parkins centre for Rovers.
Gresley manager John McGinlay made a statement of intent in the 58th minute bringing on hulking six-footers Jon Allcock and Kevin Allsop.
United had failed to cope with Allcock's unsettling presence four days earlier and were again unnerved but the visitors' long balls were a series of aimless punts and the Reds looked to be hanging on.
But the set-piece curse which has haunted United all season struck ten minutes from time with Woolley, who headed Gresley's dramatic equaliser on Saturday, again jumping highest to score.
Questions had to be asked with Willetts hesitating and caught between Woolley on the edge of the area and his goalline as the header looped in.
But with the hosts deflated Colcombe popped up with his sublime effort to crown an eventful few days.
You wouldn't read about it.
