Luton had the first effort at goal inside the second minute when they won a free kick 30 yards out but French winger Valois cleared the bar with his set piece.
And it was the bar that denied Harriers on three minutes when Appleby's cross was headed on by Broughton and Stamps crashed a 12-yard drive against the underside of the woodwork. Scott Stamps hit the bar for Harriers early on
However, Harriers gave away a foul in the ensuing scramble and the visitors came close on seven minutes.
Howard outpaced Hinton down the right as Harriers attempt to play the offside trap failed but the tall forward shot powerfully wide past Brock's left-hand post.
The Kidderminster keeper was forced into action six minutes later when he did well to tip over Howard's hanging header from a left-wing Taylor cross.
Harriers target man Broughton was always in the thick of it and he headed straight at Ovendale on 18 minutes after another testing cross from busy midfielder Appleby.
