A MAN claims he was held at knifepoint in a Worcester supermarket car park and ordered to hand over his wallet.

Babor Ali had been to a cashpoint at Sainsbury's as he was giving three people a lift in his car, Worcester Crown Court heard.

He claimed Dean Lown, in the passenger seat behind him, then produced a long kitchen knife and held it to his throat.

He said he managed to put Lown in an arm-lock and escaped from the Nissan Bluebird, bleeding heavily from a cut hand.

Mr Ali ran for help and described how Lown then drove off in his car.

He also alleged that Lown's girlfriend, Tania McLean, who was also in the car, came to his home later and asked him to drop any charges.

Lown, aged 23, and 18-year-old McLean, who were living in Edgeworth Close, Warndon, Worcester, at the time, deny attempted robbery. Lown also denies taking a car without consent.

Giving evidence, Mr Ali said he went to a Warndon flat to find a friend. Ten people were there and he agreed to give a woman a lift home to The Arboretum.

The woman and the defendants got into his car but he stopped at Sainsbury's to withdraw £20.

As he got back in the vehicle, he claimed Lown pulled back his head, got out the knife and shouted to him to disclose his pin number and hand over his wallet.

Lown told police in interview that Mr Ali wanted to buy drugs and they went with him to a number of possible sources.

He claimed Mr Ali called at the cashpoint for drug money and then pulled out the knife.

Lown said he got cut and left blood all over the car. He drove off in panic because he thought Mr Ali's friends would appear.

McLean told police she had apologised to Mr Ali. She said they wanted to move away from Worcester and start a fresh life.

The trial continues.
