FAIRFIELD came through a tough examination against Brownhills Town on December 29.

Fairfield Villa (0) 2 Brownhills Town (1) 1

The visitors did the early attacking but were unable to penetrate a solid defence until the 39th minute when a corner was not cleared and Steve Stretton shot through a crowded area and past keeper Steve Gravenall.

Villa were much more determined after the break and had the visitors' defence at full stretch with Martin Tranter firing over when well placed on the hour.

In the 75th minute, Villa equalised when a ball from Ian Donegan found Wayne Davies who was then tripped in the area. Alistar Thomas easily beat keeper Gary Vardy from the spot.

Five minutes later Villa got a deserved winner when a superb Tranter cross was met by Thomas. His header hit the bar but he put the rebound into the net.
