THE annual meeting was attended by WI adviser Sylvia Perkins, who gave an entertaining account of her recent holiday of a lifetime covering thousands of miles of the North American continent. She then enlightened members about the refurbishment of WI house in Worcester and the consequent improvements that were already being much appreciated.
The election of a new president to succeed Joyce Parkes, retiring after three years in office, saw Dot Waldron taking over.
The competitions cup was won by Gladys Lewis, with Margaret Bradford, Elizabeth Mitchell and Mary Wormington as joint runners up.
The December meeting was an Edwardian event, members being in costume in their role as the audience for the entertainment that followed business matters. Dot Waldron master minded an Old Time Music Hall presentation, with seven beautifully costumed artistes singing to the keyboard accompaniment played by Margaret Bradford, who was impressively dressed in black pin stripe trousers, dinner jacket, white shirt and bow tie crowned with a bowler hat, and as a finishing touch with an unlit cigar clutched between her teeth. Introductions were made by Pat Kay posing as Mr Leonard Sachs' mother. The cast consisted of the following troupers : Angela Kovacevic, Ann Brown, Gladys Lewis, Peg Poultney, Sue Pugh, Dot Waldron and Mary Wormington, who all received a well deserved and appreciative reception.
