IT was cup week in the Bromsgrove and Redditch Table Tennis Association with matches being played under the new system of five games of 11 points.
The two top teams won easily. The Newton Works A team of Geoff Cooper, Mark Fiddian and Brian Belcher came through 9-0 against Newton Works B.
Lickey Monarchs had an 8-1 victory over Droitwich A. Sid Hodgetts and Roy Norton both won their three games for Lickey with Martin Clarke getting the other two. Trevor Simmons recorded Droitwich's only win.
Hillcrest could only manage two players against Newton Works C but still won 6-3. Their two players, Alan McLoughlin and Graeme Farrall, both won their three games.
Astwood Bank beat West Midlands Phones A 7-2 with their number one Ken Southwell winning all of his games.
Nigel Anson and Peter Kelly both won two each for the Banks. Colin Would got both points for the Phones.
Barnt Green B were 6-3 victors in a hard fought game against Barnt Green Hornets. Ian Scott won his three games for Barnt Green B. Mike Evetts won two and Jim McGuire got one.
For the Hornets, Paul Grigg claimed two points and Ivor Anderson one.
West Midlands Phones prevailed 8-1 at home to Studley Road Terriers.
For the Phones, Dot Sheward and Don Shillingford were in great form and both won their three games. Ian Maybury scored two points.
Captain John Dignum got the Terriers' only victory.
