TOWN centre CCTV cameras proved their worth over the festive period with three incidents being caught on video within the space of an hour during one night, writes Becky Procter.
The system was officially switched on towards the end of last year and within the first week of operation an arrest was made after camera operators alerted police to a brawl.
But during the Christmas period, the CCTV system proved invaluable in helping police, who used video footage to gain evidence or track the movements of offenders.
Just after Christmas, in the space of an hour, two youths were arrested for affray after an incident outside the Fisherman's Catch, arrests were made for public order offences and three men were caught on camera damaging an unattended police car.
