DEAR EDITOR - We should like the opportunity to give a categorical answer to the implication by Cllr Meikle that we are members of any pressure group formed recently in Droitwich.

This is clearly not the case, as he well knows.

As to our having knowledge of the option which it now appears that Tesco hold on land at Kidderminster Road, Cllr Rogers passed this information on to Wychavon District Council as soon as it came into his possession, and as such it is in the public domain.

We have no evidence that this option has any disreputable implications as seems to have been suggested by both Peter Luff and Cllr Meikle. We can only assume that this latest attempt to smear democratically elected councillors arises from the neurotic belief of local Tories that they are the sole arbiters of the most appropriate ways in which Droitwich should develop.

We do not believe that this is the case and so shall continue to carry out the task for which we understood we were elected - namely to scrutinise all proposals in an open and even-handed manner, and to decide whether to oppose or support each development based upon the evidence available to us and what we believe to be the interests of the people who we represent. We trust our colleagues in other party groupings will do the same.

Cllrs Peter Pinfield, Keith Rogers and Roy Seabourne,

Wychavon District Council

(Droitwich West).
