Light-hearted gems from the archives of Worcestershire sparkled from Tony Wherry when he told of his experiences in 25 years as County Archivist.
More than 30,000 inquiries have come to his office during the last 12 months alone.
He gave some colourful extracts from the vast amount of records stored in the county archives, records which serve to answer the many kinds of inquiries coming from councils, churches, trades and industries, lawyers and from private individuals.
Prior to 1880, the legal profession would have run all aspects of county work because social needs, roadways, even printing works, were controlled from the Quarter Sessions, while the church was responsible for licensing professions such as surgeons, midwives and teachers.
This was a thoroughly entertaining talk, full of social anecdotes.
