A PARKSIDE pupil is set to receive the royal seal of approval when she sings for the Queen later this year.

Hayley Newnes, of Planetree Close, Bromsgrove, was selected from many hopefuls to sing at Buckingham Palace, as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations taking place in June.

The daughter of the Bromsgrove District councillor, Bill Newnes (Lab, Catshill), she earned the honour by impressing judges through her weekly drama group, Stagecoach, which runs every Sunday at Parkside Middle School.

Twelve-year old Hayley will also wow audiences when she performs at the Albert Hall on Sunday, March 10, alongside entertainer Patty Boulaye.

At the end of last year she took part in the S Club 7 Junior auditions in Cardiff, coming under the expert eye of Pop Idols judge Nicky Chapman.

Despite reaching the latter stages of the competition she was not selected for the final line-up, although proud mum Sally said Nicky complemented Hayley on her singing voice and polite disposition.

Hayley will also be treading the boards at the Norbury Theatre in Droitwich Spa in pantomime. She is in Dick Whittington, which opens tomorrow and runs until January 26.

However, Hayley is not the only future star in the family, her nine-year old sister Sophie's talent lies on the football pitch, currently playing for Bromsgrove Town Under Tens. She hopes to play for Aston Villa ladies team in the future.
