A TEENAGE girl could face a jail term after stealing a £265 antique mirror from a Worcester shop.
Gemma Byrne, who is already subject to an 18-month community rehabilitation order, was seen clutching the beech-framed object as she walked through Britannia Square, Worcester, on Friday, October 12.
A police officer stopped Byrne and her male friend, who is wanted on a warrant, as they reached the racecourse, after becoming concerned for the number of antique shops in the nearby Tything.
Mark Soper, prosecuting, said the 18-year-old, of Nunnery Avenue, Droitwich, initially said they had found the mirror and she was helping her male friend to carry it.
"After enquiries, Helen Gray, from Gray's Interiors, reported it missing and it was recovered," he said.
Byrne, who was convicted of four thefts last August, admitted theft and failing to surrender to bail when she appeared before Droitwich magistrates.
Rob Macrory, defending, said he recognised the offence was committed shortly after being convicted and that Byrne had no reason for not turning up to court.
He urged the bench to adjourn for pre-sentence reports to analyse her progress on the CRO.
Magistrates warned she was "very close" to a custodial sentence and adjourned the case until Thursday, January 31.
She was fined £20 for failing to appear in court.
