MEMBERS of the Territorial Army in Kidderminster have been put through their paces amid plummeting temperatures in the Welsh hills.
The foot and mouth disease put paid to such exercises for much of last year - but members of the B(WFR) Company of the West Midlands Regiment, based at The Shrubbery, Birmingham Road, enjoyed three days of activities from Friday, December 7.
About 40 members from Kidderminster took part in Exercise Cambrai Offence in Sennybridge, Powys.
They were among about 200 members of the West Midlands Regiment involved in exercises culminating in an attack on a prepared defensive position on the Sunday morning, after a series of reconnoitre patrols and ambushes to gather information ahead of the assault.
The attack itself was carried out using blank ammunition and pyrotechnics.About 20 members of the Hereford and Worcester Cadet Force played the role of the enemy for the soldiers, with members of the B(WFR) Company's Assault Pioneer Platoon involved in building the defensive position and fitting explosives, while the rest of the company helped carry out the Sunday attack.
Territorial Army soldiers usually train about twice a month, with exercises such as Operation Cambrai Offence taking place once a month or every couple of months.
