A CANCER patient was killed after the car he was driving went straight on at a bend in Wolverley and ploughed into a vehicle in a layby.
David Jeavons, 57, of Puxton Drive, Kidderminster, died from multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene after his blue Ford Sierra saloon smashed into a stationary Land Rover off the B4189 Shatterford Road.
At an inquest in Worcester last week, assistant deputy coroner Dr Nigel Garbutt recorded a verdict of accidental death on the former bank manager.
The inquest heard Mr Jeavons, who had been diagnosed with cancer of the gullet, had just finished his first course of chemotherapy and had one left.
Dr Garbutt said Mr Jeavons had not deliberately driven at the Land Rover and ruled out the possibility of sudden death at the wheel. He said it seemed there had been a momentary lapse of concentration.
He added: "He was driving his car and for some reason failed to take action to negotiate the bend."
