A WORCESTER man has been jailed after being caught driving while disqualified twice in just two days.

Darren Simpson, aged 20, appeared in front of Droitwich magistrates after being stopped by police on Monday while illegally driving a Ford Escort, and being stopped again on Wednesday, this time driving a Vauxhall Astra.

Simpson admitted two counts of driving while disqualified, two counts of driving without insurance, and driving a vehicle with three defective tyres.

Susan Cliff, prosecuting, said Simpson had a substantial criminal record and had only been let out of prison at the start of December and was currently on licence as well as currently serving a 12-month driving ban.

She said Simpson admitted he was disqualified, driving without insurance, and was out on licence.

Andrew Childs, defending, said his client had been "exceedingly foolish," but had been co-operative to the police.

"He did not give a false name and he was not difficult or trying to gain an advantage," he said.

He added that Simpson, of Liverpool Road, Ronkswood, was currently trying to rebuild his life after a heroin addiction and had a long criminal record, mostly involving crimes of dishonesty.

Sentenced

Magistrates sentenced Simpson to two months' imprisonment for the first count of driving while disqualified and four months, to be served concurrently, for the second count.

He was given a total of 27 penalty points for the two counts of driving without insurance, and having three defective tyres.
