A local reader has appealed to drivers not to park on the double yellow lines at the bus stop beside the Lamb Inn. There have been a number of instances where people waiting for buses have not been seen by drivers and have been left stranded. On a recent occasion an elderly lady waiting at the request stop was unable to get out between the illegally parked cars in time to be spotted by the driver, and missed her bus home to Ledbury. The reader has also suggested that because of this problem, drivers should take extra care to see if there is anyone waiting before driving on.

A reminder that the AGM of the Friends of St James's Church will take place at 7.30pm next Friday (January 18) at the Village Hall, followed at 8pm by a talk by Cora Weaver on the wells and springs of the area. There will be no charge for the AGM but the talk will cost £2.50 (£1.50 concessions) to include light refreshments. Any nominations for the Friends' committee should be submitted Norman Bennett at 2 Camp Hill (email: camphill@supanet.com).

A number of individuals and organisations in the village are considering how to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee. This actually falls next month, but is to be marked by a special Bank Holiday on Monday, June 3, followed by the usual "late May" Bank Holiday the following day. The item is on the agenda for Monday's parish council meeting (Jan.14). If anyone has any plans, either in mind or already under way, they are asked to inform the parish clerk, Pauline Striplin (tel 568317) or any parish councillor beforehand. It is hoped this should avoid any possible conflict between planned activities, and perhaps make it possible to co-ordinate some kind of unified event.
