POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a hit-and-run incident involving a 12-year-old girl in Upton on Wednesday (January 9).
The girl, who was not seriously injured, was crossing a road in the town with a relative when she was hit by a van.
Police spokeswoman Kim Stain said: "The girl, who was standing with her aunt, crossed the road after a small, blue van with yellow writing on the side stopped and the driver waved them across.
"However, when the girl began to cross, the van drove off, hitting the girl. The driver made off without stopping."
The girl was said to be shaken by the incident.
Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact PC Craig Prewer on 01905 723 888 quoting reference c/549667, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
