A POTENTIAL banana skin in the shape of Ryman League outfit Chesham United threatens to put the skids on Hereford United's FA Trophy ambitions.
The Bulls' record against Ryman clubs in recent years does not augur well for Phil Robinson's side with defeats to Billericay and Hitchin still uncomfortable memories for supporters and players alike.
Chesham, nicknamed The Generals, are pushing for a top six slot in the Premier Division and will be keen to humble their famous opponents in tomorrow's third round clash at The Meadow (3pm) which has £1,000 at stake for the winners.
Robinson, though, is aware of Hereford's record and is making sure his side is ready to accept the challenge.
"In the recent past Hereford have not done very well against teams from lower divisions and this is a potential banana skin so we have to be fully prepared in order to get a result at Chesham," he said.
"I think it will be a fast, furious affair and they will be wound up and keen to show what they can do to a team from a higher division.
"The manager thinks he has got a good team and believes he has created a lot of interest from Football League scouts.
"Out of the three feeder leagues into the Conference the Ryman's is probably the strongest and Canvey Island's recent run in the FA Cup shows what they can do."
Although the final at Villa Park is not until May 12 Robinson has set his sights on winning the Trophy.
"When you embark on a cup competition your ambition is to go all the way even though the final is a long way off," he said.
"Obviously you have to take every game as it comes but I would like to think that any team involved has those ambitions to win it and we are exactly the same.
"We had a taste of it last year when we reached the semi-final and hopefully we can go one better this time but we know we have a tricky tie ahead of us."
Robinson has injury doubts over Gavin Williams (knee) and Daniel Davidson, who limped off with an ankle injury against Worcester City reserves on Wednesday night, while Scott Goodwin begins a two-match suspension.
Formcast: Bulls to outfox Generals 2-1.
