Broadway: Charles Folkes, a labourer of Broadway, was charged with driving without a light in Bridge Street on December 23. The defendant said he supposed he was guilty but did not know the light was out. PC Poulson proved the case. The defendant said he was driving the extra mail from Broadway and did not know when he left Evesham Post Office that his light was out. He was fined 10s including costs.

Evesham: A twenty-ton hayrick at Mr J C Bomford's farm, at Sheriffs Lench, caught fire on Thursday afternoon.
The Evesham Fire Brigade used water from a nearby pool to stop it spreading to nearby hayricks and a thatched building within a few yards of the burning rick. It was estimated that three or four tons of hay had been burned.

Evesham: A weekly wage increase sought by Corporation workmen is to be opposed by Evesham Town Council's representative when the claim comes before the West Midlands Joint Industrial Council in Birmingham on January 17. The workmen, who get between £5 10s and £6 a week, are seeking a rise of about 7s 4d. The council is opposed to the rise because the workmen are already getting more than agricultural workers.

Evesham: Fine Fare are closing their Evesham supermarket after 10 years in the busy shopping area of Bridge Street, because of declining business.
This follows the close-down of several other supermarkets in the area, including George Mason and Keymarket, in the last 18 months. Increased competition and lack of car parking facilities were two other reasons why the store will close on February 12.
