AFTER a short presentation on the history of Colwall Cricket Club at Malvern Hills Hotel last night (Thursday), club chairman Alastair Smith was due to be presented with two cheques by Colwall Rotary chairman Roy Stockton (£150) and the Colwall League of Gentlemen (CLOGS) chairman Phil Browning (£100).
These donations were made in recognition of Colwall Cricket Club's commitment to youth cricket in the village.
The club provides all the equipment for Kwik cricket and its youth teams in order that nobody who can't afford to play is left out and not given an opportunity, so long as they abide with certain ground rules about safety and commitment.
The club has six youth sides for children aged 10-16 and Kwik cricket evenings for children aged 5 to 10 years.
The club's second ground, Ghost Meadow, is used by John Masefield High School for its school matches.
In 2001 the club's youth played 51 games, the club hosted Kwik cricket competitions for Hereford-shire primary schools, ten youth representative games for Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
The club's junior section grows each year now topping 100.
Youth practice takes place on a Wednesday evening and will also be on a Sunday morning this year.
The club are always very grateful for kind financial support and thank the Colwall Rotarians and League of Gentlemen, both of who have sides that utilise the ground.
Anyone interested in playing cricket for Colwall should contact either Tim Riley (01684) 560214 or David Sutton (01886) 833625.
