The Bullet Blues Band is coming to Cheltenham to serve up a night of foot-stomping soul classics.

The formula of the show, at the Town Hall on Saturday, January 19, is based on the two Blues Brothers films but is not too complex, according to Pete Tolbit, one of the band's singers.

"It's just basically two guys in hats and glasses being ambassadors for an evening of fantastic songs," he said. "It's one almighty, long party."

Pete, who has also been in the Commitments and Sister Slade, shares the singing duties for the 36 song set with Eddy Stacey, who rejoices in the title of world harmonica champion.

They are backed by a six-piece band featuring a keyboardist who used to play in the Kinks and a horn section that has played with everybody from Shirley Bassey to Robert Palmer.

Pete said: "We go back to the essence of what the Blues Brothers is all about - guys in black hats and glasses, madness, having a laugh, good songs, a big party and organised chaos."

The group is so in demand that it was asked by the BBC to headline their New Year's Eve celebrations in Birmingham's Centenary Square as well as appear alongside other pop luminaries such as S Club 7 at next year's Cannes Film Festival.

"If people are expecting to come to sit down and clap politely, don't come," said Pete.

"We're about uncomplicated fun and a non-stop party. We're looking forward to playing Cheltenham again."

Tickets are £10.50 from the box office on 01242 227979.
