PHILIP Bradbourn's letter headlined "Cars are the first choice" is correct, as far as it goes. What he utterly fails to realise is that Worcester, and Worcestershire in general, is over-developed.

Mr Bradbourn also ignored the fact that Government is planning to build another million homes in our nation to accommodate another six million immigrants, tens of thousands of whom will come to our green and pleasant country.

I should like to invite Mr Bradbourn to consider that our politicians are out of touch with reality. They are planning massive amounts of urban development while the scientists are talking of climate change being induced by global warming that is being driven by rising carbon dioxide emissions. Such huge new developments will add to this.

Those massive new developments will have to be built upon the farmland that currently provides our food, so we shall become even more reliant upon imported food. And, while our children and grandchildren become ever more reliant upon imported food, the world's population could quadruple.

Against that background of inevitable climate destruction, speaking of a few "road improvements" for our county brings King Canute to mind. Shouldn't the debate move on from traffic congestion to population congestion, and the inevitable devastation national and global "development" is going to inflict upon the lives of our children and grandchildren?

N TAYLOR, Worcester.
