COLD weather 25 years ago seemed to drive some local people to a spot of petty larceny.
The Gazette reported the accusation made by a prominent member of Colwall Parish Council that salt dumps left by the roadside were being pilfered by members of the public.
"I have received a number of reports of persons stealing salt for their own use on their own paths and drives.
"In one instance a wheelbarrow was used to remove salt, and in another, the thief filled a plastic bag placed it in the boot of his car and drove away," said Coun Ron Tavender.
"Persons who remove it for their personal use are acting in a despicable and anti-social manner."
