INTERTHORNES recorded their first points of the season with a 4-2 away win over Talbot Head in the Malvern Football League.
Interthornes, who had not picked up any points in the league, certainly started the new year in top form and their 100 per cent effort could not be faulted as they returned to action after a three week absence.
The thaw over the weekend made conditions tricky for the players although, with the pitch playable, Adam Juden slotted in Interthornes, first goal in the opening minutes of the game.
Twenty five minutes into the game and Alastair Harley fought his way through a crowd of players to equalise for Talbot Head. Seven minutes later and Dave Martin headed in Talbot Head's second, following a corner which had failed to be cleared by the Interthornes defence. Ten minutes before the interval and a Dave Jones effort was deflected past the helpless keeper to equalise for Interthornes, taking both teams in at the break two goals a piece.
After the restart and on 68 minutes, Anthony Jones slid the ball under the advancing Talbot Head keeper to give Interthornes a 3-2 lead. Twelve minutes before the final whistle and a good advantage played by Referee Dave Roberts allowed Steve Wood to score Interthornes' fourth and ultimately the clinch the game.
With only two other games played because of the recent cold spell, the leaders Bull Allstars continued to increase their advantage at the top of the League with a 7-2 victory over the visiting Fromes Hill. Goals from Jamie Gladwin, Kevin Brookes, Joey Smith and a brace each for Mark Toman and Jamie James respectively were too much for Fromes Hill, who scored through James Howard and John Gittens.
At a sodden Lower Howsell Road Morgan Aero 8 achieved their first draw of the season against Brewery to remain in fifth position, but during the game they twice took the lead only for their opponents to twice equalise. Michael Griffin edged Morgan Aero 8 in front before Justin Davies equalised, then in the final 15 minutes Simon Rodway looked to have settled the tie for the home side before Owen Meale slotted in the equaliser for the second time to record a well earned point. Mark Philpotts, returning from eight weeks of injury, was Morgan's man of the match.
Malvern Town are confirmed as Champions of the Under 18s Youth Division, sponsored by the Soccer Site, after their 6-0 win against Warndon Youth.
The Youth Division sides will shortly be competing in a new competition in conjunction with the Bromsgrove Football League due to start in February.
The Rosebowl Cup Semi-finals take place this Sunday with Malvern Town hosting Campden Town and Welland travelling to Hereford to play the Cup holders Tupsley Pegasus Juniors. These ties are sponsored by www.thesoccersite.co.uk.
This coming Sunday, with Bull Allstars without a game, will give Club AC 30 a chance to reduce the gap at the top although they will find the opposition tough as they compete against a confident Interthornes side at Lower Howsell Road.
Callow End Harriers play a local derby against Old Bush Willie Thornes, Bell Inn 98 host Morgan Aero 8 and Fromes Hill face a Talbot Head side who will be hoping to reverse their fortunes after their defeat on Sunday.
