TROLLEYS, bicycles and old trees are creating dams in the River Severn, the chairman of a city flooding committee has warned.
The river debris will be shown to Environment Agency representatives when they visit the Severn in Worcester tomorrow.
Mary Dhonau, chairman of Worcester's Action Against Flooding (WAAF) committee, said the discarded rubbish and trees were causing small dams to develop in the river, increasing the risk of flooding.
She claims it had taken the WAAF months to get the Environment Agency to visit the river.
Mrs Dhonau, from Waverley Street, said a dam was forming by the Severn View Hotel on Croft Road.
"The river is in appalling condition and is so blocked under the main Worcester bridge that swans can walk across it," she said.
"There's a bicycle in the river there. The landlady took me there in September last year.
"She was very concerned."
Mrs Dhonau said trees were still stuck in the river by Waterworks Road and the floods in November and December 2000 failed to wash them away.
"We'll be taking representatives from the Environment Agency to Ros Adams' house in Waterworks Road which was flooded," she said.
"We'll show them the state of the trees in the river from her house."
Mrs Adams said the Environment Agency believed the river would clear itself.
"They're coming to mine for sandwiches and to look at the trees that have fallen in the river," she said.
"The banks are being built up because of the debris."
Peter May and Ian Morris from the Environment Agency, based in River Severn South, Shrewsbury, will meet Mrs Dhonau at Worcester bridge.
They will then walk by the river to Diglis Road and meet Mark Holtham, a riverbank specialist from WAAF.
The walk, which is expected to take around two hours, will end at Waterworks Road.
"Bikes and trolleys have been chucked in the river at certain points," said Mrs Dhonau.
"When you've got things like that, rubbish gets caught and a dam is formed.
"We want to get the river back to normal as soon as possible and to get it unblocked."
If anyone has seen any eyesores along the River Severn they would like to point out they should contact Mrs Dhonau on 01905 353104 before tomorrow.
