HEREFORD golfer David Park fired a closing round 64 for a share of fifth spot in the Bells South African Open and earned himself just over £16,000 in prize money.
It was an impressive finish by Park but he still ended up seven shots behind winner Tim Clark.
The South African, who began the week by winning the pre-qualifying competition to earn a place in the field, claimed the title at The Country Club, Durban, with a closing 65 for a 19-under-par total of 269 and a £78,877 cash prize.
Clark, 26, born and bred in Natal, received considerable vocal encouragement from his family and friends in his home town as he played some controlled golf to edge out England's Steve Webster by two strokes.
Park had rounds of 71, 68, 73, 64 for a 12-under-par total of 276.
Evesham's Jeremy Robinson finished on five under par for joint 26th place after a closing round of 71 for 283.
