THROUGH your letters page, may I express my appreciation, on behalf of the family, for the many sympathetic cards and letters received from local people following the sudden death of my father, Trid Sarkar JP.
The kind words expressed have been most comforting to us all at this sad and difficult time. It has certainly made me more aware of my father's positive contribution to life in this city.
He brought down barriers, and his pioneering (voluntary) race relations work from the 1960s onwards remains an inspiration.
That more than 150 people attended Dad's funeral is a tangible indication of the high esteem in which he was held.
To me, Dad will always be a massive inspiration. He was the perfect immigrant, in fact. Both his sons were brought up as any other British children, and he made a significant contribution to British engineering and the British Criminal Justice system, not to mention supporting, of course, numerous philanthropic causes both at home and abroad
To say that Trid Sarkar will be sadly missed would be both an understatement and unnecessary.
DILIP SARKAR,
St Peter's, Worcester.
