NEWS that Worcestershire is to get a £1.5 million cash boost to cut 'bed-blocking' in hospitals has been welcomed by Worcestershire County Council.
The handout is one of the biggest under a £200 million scheme aimed at freeing more than 1,000 beds in NHS hospitals by March.
Eddie Clarke, county council head of services for older people, said: "The £1.5 million for next year is very welcome news and will be used to help more people return home from hospital with support as early as possible, or will fund extra places in residential and nursing homes."
He added the council was particularly keen to develop more 'going home' schemes to help older people after an illness or operation.
