WORCESTERSHIRE wicketkeeper Steve Rhodes has been appointed coach to the Zimbabwe under 19 team for the forthcoming Youth World Cup.
Rhodes jetted out to Zimbabwe at the end of last season to carry out three months coaching development work, but has impressed the country's cricket board officials so much that he has been asked to take their under 19s to the World Cup in New Zealand.
He said: "While I am very optimistic the team will spring a few surprises, I am well aware the opposition will bestrong.
"One of our key players will be Hamilton Mazakadza who has just returned from Sri Lanka with the senior team. Earlier this year he made a century on debut against the West Indies.
"I am very honoured to be given this opportunity to help with the development of talented young cricketers from Zimbabwe. The experience is sure to benefit me in my long term goal which is to be involved in coaching."
The squad's cup preparations have included trips to South Africa.
