ONCE again, Jon Burgess is twisting the facts in an attempt to prove his case. My husband and I were independent protesters at the Boxing Day Hunt at Droitwich.
After the disgraceful display by supporters last time, when they surged into the middle of the road waving their professionally produced placards in our faces, I was assured by the police that this time there would be safety barriers on both sides of the road. Supporters would be instructed to remain behind them.
The protesters conformed to the police request and remained behind the barriers but the arrogant supporters did not.
In fact, two of them, a man and a woman, stood in front of us in the middle of the road cheering and applauding the riders loudly. When they had passed by, the man turned round and spat in the face of an elderly lady protester. This was reported to two police officers but nothing was done.
As for the music blaring, this was the protesters singing that beautiful hymn All Things Bright and Beautiful.
While admitting we are not all Pavarottis or Lesley Garrets I don't think we could be classed as blaring, it was more in the nature of a requiem for a fox about to meet a cruel, horrendous, barbaric death.
Regarding the noise, if the hunters insist on parading their might and power of approximately 70 of them pitted against one defenceless animal, then they must expect derisory comments. It also worth noting that the loud cheering and applause from their own supporters increased the level of the noise.
If the hunters do not want their horses upset, then I suggest they stay at home and stop provoking right-minded people.
