THE Kings and Queens of England will be featured in Evesham Carnival on Saturday June 1 to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

Round Tablers who are organising the carnival are looking for a local celebrity to lead the parade of floats through the town.

Spokesman Andrew Laver said: "We are also looking for carnival floats to enter the main parade. This year we will be collecting money for local charities or organisations. The main difference this year will be that anyone who enters a float in the parade - subject to Round Table final decision on entrants - will receive a percentage of the money collected on the day, based on the number of floats entered."

Anyone wishing to enter a float should contact Mike Challenger via the Journal for further information.

Mr Laver said: "All you need to do is supply your organisation charity number or bank account details to the Vale of Evesham Round Table to enable us to send a cheque directly after the carnival. We will then send details and book a place in the procession."

A Carnival Queen contest is being organised by the Vale of Evesham Ladies Circle to find a Queen and Princesses for the day.

Tablers plan to produce a commemorative programme and will be running a competition to find a design for the front cover. There will be a display of the winners and runners-up artwork on the day, as well as an exhibition of the colouring competition winners and runners-up from the Sleigh.

Mr Laver said: "We have the Crown Meadow for the day and it would be great if we could find other groups, organisations or clubs to join in on the day. All round it will be a superb day, a chance for the town to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee, as well as raising money for local charities and organisations."
