STONE registered their first win of the season with a shock success at local rivals Victoria and Blakeley Hall with just nine men on Saturday.

The villagers rustled up a 17-run friendly victory over the Kidderminster opposition to prepare for their Worcestershire League Division Five campaign.

Once skipper Gary Bourke won the toss and elected to bat, Stone made steady progress, losing their first wicket at 45 and the second for 73.

Bourke and Adrian Blackledge added 122 for the third with the former blasting 83 off just 84 balls.

Blackledge finished undefeated on 49, while Woodward (2-33) was Victoria's most successful bowler.

Although the Stone bowlers had to contend with a wet ball, wickets fell at regular intervals despite sound batting from Simon Cook (55) and captain David Mitchell (30).

Most of Stone's bowlers put up a good display with the pick of them being Pete Durnell (4-28) and Fred Buxton (3-24).

Kevin Hatton offered good support and their skipper Bourke pulled off a fine catch to take the final wicket.
