THOMAS KINKADE - PAINTER OF LIGHT: On Good Friday, Broadway saw the opening of a Gallery merchanting the works of Thomas Kinkade, whose works 'affirm the basic values of family and home, faith in God and the luminous beauty of nature'.

The Gallery is run by Dennis Avis and his partner Judy, who are Willersey residents. They believe that there will be considerable interest in his hand highlighted lithographic works which include paintings of the Cotswold countryside. He has made many visits to Broadway.

Mr Kinkade is America's most collected artist, a fact which has not gone unnoticed by visitors to the Gallery. It is hoped he will come to Broadway in the summer.

GARDEN CLUB: The speaker at the March meeting was Chris Brown of Compton Lane Nurseries on the subject of Alpines.

Prior to starting his own nursery, Mr Brown had two years training at Wisley and then worked for Crowders of York, the largest commercial nursery in the UK. There then followed the tending of the Botanical Gardens of the Rt Hon Michael Heseltine, and some designing and landscaping for Lady Peake.

Mr Brown used slides from the Alpine Garden Society for his talk and recommended a visit to Wisley, which RHS garden holds a collection 18,000 alpine plants.

The competition for three stems of hellebores in a vase was won by Christine Savage, Shirley Gobourn was second whilst Diane Stacey was placed third.

The committee regret to announce the death of Mr Geoff Barrett, a long standing member of the committee. Condolences have been sent to his family on behalf of the club.
