THE faces of Stourport for the year ahead were chosen at the weekend when the rosebud, princess and queen were crowned.

All three will spearhead the town's September 7 carnival on both land and water and the queen - 16-year-old Sammy Jo Hall - will carry out a variety of civic and social duties over the next 12 months.

The princess is Tyrie Broadhurst, 10, who lives in the town and attends Lickhill Middle School, and the rosebud is seven-year-old Windmill First School pupil Lauren Bourne, also from Stourport.

Sammy Jo, who attends Hagley's Haybridge High School and lives in Kidderminster, receives £150.

Carnival organiser Pete Roberts said: "There were record entries for the rosebud and princess competitions and there were four for the carnival queen and they could have all been winners. I wouldn't have liked to have been a judge."

He added: "The rosebud, princess and queen will lead the parade this year on the float that goes through the town and they will also lead the day and night river parades on a specially decorated boat."
